Faith-Filled Goals: Align Your Plans with God's Purpose.

Are you a goals person? Do you find yourself gradually failing at keeping these goals throughout the year? I feel like this has been me every single year. At least until I started to ground my goals in my faith. Ready to see what I mean?

Faith-filled goal-setting invites us to not only dream big but to seek His guidance in every step.

This blog will walk you through aligning your intentions with God’s plan, breaking down goals into actionable steps, and reflecting on how faith transforms our goal-setting process.

Why set faith-filled goals?

Goals are often about achieving something tangible like eating healthier or going to bed earlier. These are valuable pursuits. Yet, faith-filled goals will help us to grow deeper. Instead of striving alone, faith-filled goals are rooted in prayer and trust in His timing. Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Faith-filled goals are not about perfect plans but about a posture of surrender to His leading.

3 Steps to Set Faith-Filled Goals

  1. Start with Prayer and Scripture

We desire to ensure that our plans are rooted in God’s intentions for us. We make sure this happens we must start with prayer and scripture. Before setting any goals, take time to sit in God’s presence. Ask Him to reveal areas of growth, purpose, and alignment for the coming year.

Questions to Ask in Prayer:

  • Where do I feel God calling me to grow this year?

  • Are there areas in my life I need to surrender to Him?

  • How can my goals reflect my faith and relationship with Him?

When you begin with prayer, you create space for God to shape your intentions.

2. Break Down Big Goals into Manageable Steps

Big dreams can often feel daunting, leading to discouragement. Instead, break your goals into smaller, actionable steps.

For example:

  • Big Goal: Deepen your prayer life.

  • Actionable Steps:

    • Spend 5 minutes daily in prayer this month.

    • Join a prayer group by March.

    • Read a devotional book about prayer by June.

Small, intentional steps build momentum and create habits that last.

3. Reflect and Adjust Regularly

Goals are not set-it-and-forget-it. They need to be evaluated and adjusted often. Our circumstances and seasons change. Regularly check in with yourself and God about your progress.

Ask yourself:

  • Is this goal still aligned with where God is leading me?

  • What has been fruitful, and where do I need to shift focus?

  • Am I still relying on God, or am I striving in my strength?

Faith-filled goals thrive when we’re willing to reflect and adjust as necessary.

Before You Go…
